Congratulations to the 2017 Regional Showcase Winners!

Every year Brand South Australia’s Regional Showcase program highlights individuals, groups and business that have significantly contributed to South Australia's regional areas.

The best stories, written and shared by our team of journalists, were shortlisted earlier this year before three winners were revealed on Friday 6 October in Whyalla!

Sundrop Farms demonstrated its place as a pioneer of sustainable agriculture through the launch of its tomato farm in Port Augusta in 2016. The $200m commercial facility is the first of its kind in the world, producing more than 15,000 tonnes of tomatoes a year using solar power and seawater. Sundrop Farms contribute significantly to the local area economically, and also by helping develop the professional skills of those in their region.

Keith’s Diesel and Dirt Derby began as a fundraiser for the town’s struggling country show and has grown to become one of the Limestone Coast’s most exciting events. Earlier this year 10,000 people gathered to take part or witness country motorsport events including tractor pulls, buggy racing and a header demolition derby. The Diesel and Dirt Derby has truly contributed to the regions community and culture.

The ghost town of Farina has captured the hearts (and hungry stomachs) of travellers from South Australia and interstate. It’s all due to the efforts of the Farina Restoration Group and its band of volunteers. For eight weeks every winter volunteers flock to the small town in the state’s Far North, 55km from Marree, to fire up an old underground wood-fired Scotch oven. This true gem of the South Australian outback now has another jewel to add to it’s collection thanks to the votes of the South Australian public.
