5RPH is a part of the Vision Australia Radio network of stations delivering a reading and information service to the print handicapped via radio. It is estimated that 18.4% of South Australians have a print disability (292,000 people); 5RPH plays a vital role in meeting their information needs. Among this group are people with severe vision loss, those who understand spoken English but cannot read it easily, people with learning difficulties, and those with physical disabilities such as arthritis. 5RPH programs are designed to provide South Australia’s print handicapped population with the same access to information that the rest of the population takes for granted. With a broadcast area that covers the vast majority of South Australia’s population, 5RPH listeners rely on the service for readings from daily newspapers, weekly magazines and a selection of disability specific programs.
