Uncovering South Australia’s brightest minds.
South Australia is building a reputation as one of the best regions for entrepreneurs in Australia. Our working spaces, support programs, tech community and research institutions are providing the foundations for start-ups and innovators to flourish.
Scott Boocock is an entrepreneur, born with a curious mind. Originally from Alice Springs, Scott chooses to live in South Australia because of the state’s ongoing investment in innovation.
Scott is the founder and CEO of South Australian company HEGS Australia and is known for his iconic HEGS Pegs product, an idea that sprung into Scott’s mind while he was hanging out the washing.
From this clever peg, which is still made right here in SA, HEGS Australia now have multiple products in market. Scott now spends much of his time working with aspiring entrepreneurs to help bring their ideas to life.
Scott is the first to remind any hopeful innovator that the key to success is a great support network, and this state is the best place to build one.
“South Australia is a brilliant place to launch new ideas”, says Scott.
“For entrepreneurs like myself, not only can we produce our products here, we’ve got a fantastic industry support network and great investment schemes and projects.”
Dr Michelle Perugini is an internationally renowned expert in cognitive Artificial Intelligence (AI). An entrepreneur specialising in the fields of health, medical research and advanced analytics, Michelle chooses to stay in South Australia to be part of a culture that fosters new ideas and technologies.
Michelle is the brains behind multiple and diverse AI businesses. Life Whisperer uses AI to improve IVF success rates, while Presagen’s unique platform analyses large sets of historical medical images to improve diagnostic accuracy. Presagen also uses Defense technology for automation.
In 2007 Michelle co-founded the innovative start-up ISD Analytics where she led the research and commercialisation of its award-winning analytics software Simulait, which predicts human-population behaviour.
Michelle dedicates much of her time to mentoring in commercialisation, and believes that South Australia’s entrepreneurial culture is thriving.
“There has been a shift in South Australia since I started my first business 10 years ago. There is a real buzz around supporting new ideas that will change lives and build our local economy”, says Michelle.
“Our state is producing some some ground-breaking ideas, and I’m proud to say I’m part of that.”
