South Australia’s technology infrastructure is fostering our states burgeoning creative industries, with opportunities for careers within visual effects, TV and film production, app development and in the fast-growing VR space.
Kirsty Stark is the Development Producer at the newly established Matchbox Pictures South Australia office. Kirsty has produced multi-award winning TV and films right here in SA for the past decade.
Kirsty began her career as a freelance camera assistant and cinematographer before transitioning to producing when she founded Epic Films. In her new role at Matchbox Pictures, she will work with local writers and directors to develop projects that will allow the creative industries in our state to grow. Projects produced in SA by Matchbox Pictures will generate local jobs, like the 250 cast and crew roles on series 3 of the highly acclaimed show ‘Wanted.’
Kirsty is excited by our state’s versatile locations and thriving film community, and is passionate about telling compelling stories that showcase South Australia’s talent on a national and international stage.
“Having grown my career in SA, I know firsthand the importance of creating opportunities for our talented South Australian writers, directors and creatives,” says Kirsty.
“The opportunities for growth across SA’s creative industries are really exciting.”
App-developers Russell Ivanovic and Philip Simpson saw space in the market for a reliable and accurate weather app. Their answer? Pocket Weather Australia. When released, it topped Apple’s app charts for 3 weeks.
Russell and Philip of Shifty Jelly have been making mobile apps in South Australia for the past decade. The small team of five are making global waves, after their award-winning podcast platform, Pocket Casts, was bought out by four of the world’s most influential podcast creators, including public radio company This American Life.
Shifty Jelly, now known as Podcast Media, will continue developing Pocket Casts right here in Adelaide, as they always have.
“This international investment will only bring benefit to South Australia’s creative economy” says Philip.
“There’s a real opportunity for South Australia to play a major part in the podcasting industry,” adds Russell.
Tom Hadju co-founded one of the largest music production companies in the world. It was based in New York and Los Angeles but in 2015 Tom chose to make South Australia his home.
Tom is now CEO of Disrupter, a company developing game-changing innovations across industries.
He is also the Chief Innovator for South Australia, providing strategic advice on how to transform our state to a digital economy.
Tom is helping SA thrive in a disruptive world.
An important part of this is the Gig City initiative, which Tom believes “will provide South Australia with the infrastructure to compete on a world stage.”
